Thema:
When we talk about the quality of education, each of us carries our own perspectives and expectations. Quality is, in many ways, in the eye of the beholder. What students, teaching staff, and faculty management (i.e, key stakeholders) see as indicators of high-quality education may differ significantly in practice.
The aim of this round table is twofold. First, to exchange views on what high-quality education means and how it can be attained from the perspectives of students, staff, and management. Second, to inspire and support dialogue on how stakeholders can work together to get the best out of education.
The session is cocreated and jointly led by students and staff and can be offered in English or Dutch.
Doel:
The session begins with a short introduction to educational quality and those involved in quality enhancement. From there, attention shifts to concrete examples of student involvement and empowerment, such as student evaluation committees and other initiatives within the faculty.
The central question is: What do students, staff, and faculty management consider high-quality education? What role can or should each play in sustainable quality improvement? And how can students be empowered to take ownership in this process?
The session will help participants strengthen their view on how relevant stakeholder groups, such as student representatives, may contribute to quality improvement in their own context. Highlighting empowerment as a driver of sustainable change, the session supports more effective and impactful cooperation.
The intended outcome is an exchange of ideas, a shared reflection on what educational quality means, and discussion on how it can be achieved, including clarity on responsibilities for different actions.
Doelgroep:
Student representatives and educators/faculty members who are interested in understanding each-others’ perspectives on what high-quality education means, how it can/should be attained, and which role the different stakeholders can play in this process.
Opzet: activiteiten en opbrengst:
The discussion consists of three main parts:
Discussion round 1:Separate groups of students, staff, and management reflect on what qualifies as high-quality education, sharing experiences and ideas. The aim is the facilitation of in-depth discussion per stakeholder group to exchange ideas and experiences.
Discussion round 2:Mixed small-table groups allow participants to hear other perspectives and identify areas of agreement and disagreement.
Plenary discussion:Tables report back. Moderators link points to their own experiences from student representation, programme evaluation, and faculty management. Special focus is given to evaluating and attaining quality, and to how students can be empowered to take ownership in quality processes.
