Thema:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful resource for health professions education (HPE) researchers that can accelerate every stage of HPE scholarship. However, the “when” and “how” of when to disclose its use remains murky, and guidance about disclosure is inconsistent from journals and graduate programs. This situation is both confusing and potentially perilous for researchers, who risk their reputations if they disclose AI use inappropriately. In this interactive workshop, the facilitators will draw on their experience with AI disclosure, as journal editors, authors, research mentors, and researchers in this domain. The workshop will introduce evidence from the most current scholarly literature, journal/publisher policies, and guidelines to help participants make sound judgments about when they should be disclosing AI use and what those disclosures need to include. We will also include a component for how to communicate with your team in terms of a group discussion around disclosure. Lastly, participants will have an opportunity to practice drafting disclosure statements.
Doel:
At the end of the workshop, participants will: Be familiar with policy, guidelines, and evolving practices related to AI-use disclosure; Have a sound basis for judging when AI-use disclosure is necessary; Have a framework for creating an AI-use disclosure statement and judging its robustness; and Be able to align their collaborators to a shared approach to AI use and disclosure.
Doelgroep:
Scholars who are using, or plan to use, AI in their research and would like more clarity regarding when and how to disclose AI-use.
Opzet: activiteiten en opbrengst:
The 75-minute workshop is structured to maximize participant interaction.
Background (20 minutes): What is an AI-use disclosure? What is the current evidence, policy and guidelines about AI-use disclosure?
Small group work (25 minutes): When is disclosure necessary, and what is sufficient? Participants will engage with two case scenarios to discuss the necessity of disclosure, who to engage in conversation about AI-disclosure. Participants will also be asked to draft a related disclosure statement.
Large group debrief of the scenarios and AI-use disclosure statements (20 minutes): Participants will be asked to debrief the case scenarios and share their AI-use disclosures, discussing the rationale for disclosure and assessing the robustness of the content and structure of their statement.
Wrap up (10 minutes): Facilitators will conclude and address any remaining questions.
