About the JON
Stimulating scientific research, with the aim of improving and better understanding education, training and learning in healthcare, is one of the most important pillars of the NVMO. More and more research into healthcare education is being conducted and the Young Researcher Network (JON) was established to support these researchers.
The JON is an active NVMO network that brings together PhD candidates and early-career researchers (up to approximately 5 years post-doctorate) to share knowledge about education research and showcase their work. JON members play an active role in NVMO working groups and the annual NVMO congress. If you conduct research in healthcare education, the JON is a great place to connect with like-minded peers in your field.
Activities
The JON organises a variety of activities to help you expand your network and further your professional development:
- The JON-day
- The JON Learning series (online)
- The NVMO Pre-conference* workshop
*The day before the NVMO Congress, a pre-conference is held for PhD candidates.

JON-Day
The JON Day is an annual event organised specifically for PhD candidates and their (co-)supervisors. During this day, PhD candidates can present their own work and share their knowledge with fellow researchers. A variety of workshops is also offered.
Since 2018, the JON Day has featured the Marijke Sterman Prize, awarded to the PhD candidate who, alongside their own doctoral research, is actively engaged with society in a broader social context, is supportive of their colleagues and brings people together. More background on the Marijke Sterman Prize and other NVMO prizes and awards can be found on the Prijzen en Awards page.
The 2026 JON Day took place on 16 January 2026 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University.

JON Learning series
The JON Learning Series aim to strengthen knowledge sharing and networking within the JON. These are (online) sessions held once every four to six months. Each session lasts approximately one hour
and features an interactive workshop or talk, with the aim of gaining knowledge on a certain topic and connecting with fellow researchers. Our goal is to cover a wide range of topics while giving everyone the chance to contribute.
For more information and/or suggestions about upcoming Learning Series sessions, please get in touch at jon@nvmo.nl.
