Samenvatting

Bij de afdeling Orthopedie in het Atrium Medisch Centrum Parkstad te Heerlen is geleidelijk een structuur ontstaan waarin studenten en assistenten, met verschillende achtergronden, onderzoek en klinisch werk combineren. Door de wijze van samenwerking leert men (van elkaar) de competenties samenwerken, communicatie, kennis & wetenschap en professionaliteit in de praktijk toe te passen. Door de geboden opbouw van student, coassistent, arts niet in opleiding tot specialist (anios), arts in opleiding tot specialist (aios) tot (gepromoveerd) orthopeed wordt het beoogd opleidingscontinuüm in de praktijk gerealiseerd. Summary

The orthopaedic surgery unit of Atrium Medical Centre, Heerlen has gradually developed a model of working in which students and residents of various backgrounds can work collaboratively during research and clinical activities. This collaborative structure promotes collaborative development of competencies in collaboration, communication, knowledge and scholarship and professionalism. This collaborative model allows for the realisation of an educational continuum from student, junior doctor not attending specialty training, resident attending the specialty training programme to specialist in orthopaedics with or without a PhD degree. Until it was specifically pointed out to us in the feedback session following the internal inspection of our department, we were unaware of that this learning model is unusual. We have written this paper, because it was suggested that we should share this model of learning with the medical education community. (Boekhorst SJJ, Heyligers IC.
